The story of Rurouni Kenshin is takes place in the Meiji Era (begin in 1868),a time of great uncertainty for Japan.The main character,Himura Kenshin's original name was Shinta,his parents were died at cholera out break.A year later,they were attacked by bandits.Hiko Seijyuurou passed by and saved his life.Hiko took Kenshin in as his student to learn Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu and changed his name from Shinta to Kenshin(heart of sword).
Before the Meiji Restoration,Kenshin was the top assassin for the reformist group Ishin Shishi that killed so many people and got a name Hitokiri Battousai (sword wielding killer).However,when the old government was overthrown,Hitokiri Battousai had disappeared. The world presumed him dead or lost.
In the eleventh year of the Meiji Era (1878),a man is found wandering in the Tokyo's street.He carries a Sakabatou-Shinuchi (reverse-bladed) and has a cross scar on his cheek.When Kenshin meets Kamiya Kaoru, he is no longer Hitokiri Battousai but a wandering samurai.He saved her from the real killer and Kaoru invites him to stay at her dojo beacuse he has no other place to go.This is where the story begins .....
